New Nissan Z

⚡ The New Nissan Z Car

Few cars carry a legacy as rich and celebrated as the Nissan Z. Since its debut more than 50 years ago, the Z has embodied the spirit of the true sports car, since it's lightweight, rear-wheel drive, and designed for true driving enthusiasts. Now, with the latest Nissan Z generation, the brand brings that heritage into the modern era while staying true to what made the Z iconic. Also, cars from the Z platform are definitely some of the best cheap drift cars to buy.

A Brief History of the Nissan Z

The story of the Nissan Z begins in 1969 with the legendary Datsun 240Z. When it arrived in the U.S., it offered sleek styling, impressive power, and an affordable price tag. The 240Z’s 2.4-liter inline-six engine and near-perfect balance made it an instant hit among performance fans.

Over the years, the Z-car evolved through several generations:

  • 260Z / 280Z (1970s): Added refinement and displacement, with the 280Z introducing fuel injection for better performance and reliability.

  • 300ZX (1980s-1990s): The 1984 300ZX brought turbocharging into the mix, while the 1990 Z32 generation became a tech-packed powerhouse with its twin-turbo V6 and advanced suspension.

  • 350Z (2000s): After a brief hiatus, Nissan revived the Z in 2003. The 350Z delivered muscular styling and strong performance from its 3.5-liter V6. Plenty of 350z performance mods are available today.

  • 370Z (2010s): Sharper and more refined, the 370Z continued the formula, appealing to purists who wanted a manual transmission and rear-wheel drive in an era of growing automation. Learn more about the Nissan 350z vs 370z on my other blog article.

Each generation of Nissan Z has pushed boundaries while staying loyal to its DNA, being driver-focused, powerful, and fun.

The Return of a Legend: The New Nissan Z

The new Nissan Z was officially unveiled for the 2023 model year, marking a new chapter in the car’s legacy. It blends vintage inspiration with cutting-edge performance and technology.

Under the hood, the new Nissan Z car is powered by a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged V6, producing an impressive 400 horsepower and 350 lb-ft of torque. It’s paired with either a 6-speed manual transmission or a 9-speed automatic, ensuring purists and modern drivers alike have options. Power goes to the rear wheels, just as it should in a proper Z-car!

Stylistically, the new Nissan Z pays homage to its heritage. The long hood, short rear deck, and rounded headlights nod to the 240Z, while the taillights echo the design of the 300ZX. Inside, there's a 12.3-inch display, supportive sport seats, and quality materials that feel both retro and modern.

Trims and Special Editions

Nissan offers several versions of the new Z to suit different driving styles and budgets:

  • Sport: The entry-level trim still delivers thrilling performance and all the essentials for pure driving enjoyment.

  • Performance: Adds upgraded brakes, wheels, suspension tuning, and a limited-slip differential for sharper handling.

  • NISMO: The top-tier NISMO Z takes performance to another level, with 420 horsepower, aerodynamic upgrades, stiffer chassis tuning, and a track-focused character that makes it the most extreme production Z ever.

The new Nissan Z offers a balance of performance and practicality that’s hard to match.

More than just a car, the new Nissan Z represents decades of passion, innovation, and driving excitement. It’s a bridge between generations, since it's a car that honors its past while also embracing the future of performance.
