⚡ How to Jump a Car: Quick and Safe Steps

Do you have a dead car battery? Learning how to jump a car is quick and easy if you follow these simple steps. TunerScene is here to save the day! 

What You’ll Need:

  • Jumper cables

  • Another vehicle with a working battery

  • Safety gloves (optional but recommended)

Steps for How to Jump a Car 

  1. Park the Cars Safely

    Pull the working car close, but don’t let the vehicles touch. Turn off both engines.

  2. Connect the Jumper Cables

    • Red clamp to dead battery’s positive (+)

    • Red clamp to good battery’s positive (+)

    • Black clamp to good battery’s negative (–)

    • Black clamp to metal ground on dead car (unpainted bolt or bracket—not the battery)

  3. Start the Working Car

    Let it run for 2–3 minutes.

  4. Start the Dead Car

    If it doesn’t start right away, wait a minute and try again.

  5. Remove the Cables in Reverse Order

    • Black from grounded metal

    • Black from good battery

    • Red from good battery

    • Red from dead battery

  6. Let the Jumped Car Run

    Keep it running for at least 15–20 minutes to recharge the battery.

Pro Tip: If your car keeps dying, your battery or alternator might need to be replaced.
